When selecting any piece of raw material, there are several factors that need to be considered. Tension within the tree and wind twist are two such factors; moisture content vis-à-vis wood dryness is another important element, as wood can crack and split in the drying process. Wood for your masterpiece should be adequately seasoned before beginning any work. It’s important to remember that wood is an organic material that is subject to environmental conditions, and will change, subtly, over time. An experienced wood craftsman will take all of these factors into consideration.
